Southern Oregon Lakes & Rivers
With the new Oregon Outdoors section in the Mail Tribune, the idea on the back page of the section was to show updates for fishing status on all the important lakes and rivers in Southern Oregon. So I created a generalized cartoon-like map showing the approximate location of each lake and river in relation to the main cities and towns of Southern Oregon.
First I drew the line art of the map. Then I used colored pencils to render some texture and shading. Next I scanned it all into PhotoShop and finished out the color shading using PhotoShop tools and techniques. Finally I added the type showing the names of the lakes and the cities.
Here’s a closeup of part of the map:

South Coast Map
We also wanted to show how all the important fishing rivers were positioned in relation to the cities and towns on the South Coast, so I made a little map of that area using the same techniques.

In the final printed version they changed the type font for better readability. Above is how the maps look on the page.
